About NUTHOS

The 13th International Topical Meeting on Reactor Thermal-Hydraulics, Operation, and Safety (NUTHOS-13) will take place in Taichung, Taiwan on Sep. 4-6, hosted by Chung-Hwa Nuclear Society (CHNS), National Tsing Hua University and co-hosted by Chinese Nuclear Society (CNS), Atomic Energy Society of Japan (AESJ), American Nuclear Society (ANS), Canadian Nuclear Society (CNS) Korean Nuclear Society (JNS) and other societies.

The first NUTHOS was held in Taipei in 1984 followed by Tokyo (1986), Seoul (1988), Taipei (1994), Beijing (1997), Nara (2004), Seoul (2008), Shanghai (2010), Kaohsiung (2012), Okinawa (2014), Gyeongju (2016) and Qingdao (2018). NUTHOS has attracted high interests among international nuclear communities in nuclear thermal-hydraulics, operation and safety and has become one of the major international conferences in these fields.

NUTHOS aims to provide an international nuclear communication platform for information and technology exchange in engineering experience, latest research results and future demands on reactor thermal-hydraulics, operation, and safety. Thermal-hydraulics is considered as an important cross-cutting subject in the development, operation and safety assessment of advanced nuclear systems. Operation and safety of nuclear power plants are two key issues in the sustainable development.

We sincerely invite you to contribute and participate in NUTHOS-13. Mark the dates and secure for yourself opportunities to make fruitful exchanges.

Host City

Situated at the most crucial geographic location, Taichung is at the heart of central Taiwan that boasts vibrant tourism, abundant cultural resources, history, natural scenery, innovative industries, recreational facilities and of course diverse cultural showcases, events, delicacies, shopping centers and more.

National Taichung Theater

National Taichung Theater, nicknamed “the Most Difficult House to Accomplish” by the industry, was designed by the internationally acclaimed Japanese architect, Toyo Ito.

The images of streams and hanging gardens on the exterior of the opera house break the usual binary separation between stage and audience, as well as outdoors and indoors. It aims to initiate more conversations among people, art and architecture, while bringing people back to the basic aspect of life: feeling real.

Gaomei Wetlands

The Gaomei Wetlands are located on the south side of the Dajia River Estuary in Qingshui. Having over 120 bird species recorded here, and this area is of great importance in ecological conservation. It is not large, but it contains a rich variety of flora and fauna because it has both mud flats and sand beaches and is also connected to the estuary’s swamp area. It also offers beautiful sunsets over a unique manmade landscape, Gaomei Lighthouse and wind turbines. A cycle track runs through the area on which riders may coast with the wind in their hair, the Gaomei Wetlands are one of the highlights of the shore.

Taichung Culture & Creative Industries Park

Over 100 years ago during the Japanese Colonial period, the park was a private distillery. As times changed it became the No. 5 Distillery of the Provincial Wine and Tobacco Monopoly Bureau and later Taichung Distillery. Liquor making operations ceased in 1998, leaving the site idle. Thanks to government and public efforts, experts completed surveying and inspection of the site in 2004. The four main exhibition areas at present, Heng Dao Hall, Ya Tang Hall, International Performance and Exhibition Hall and Truth Academy, have recently been renovated. The park also consists of dance and music studios for rent.
